Serial femtosecond crystallography is opening up many new research opportunities in structural biology — particularly in the fields of therapeutic strategies and drug discovery.
Typically, research is conducted using light-inducible systems that enable time-resolved experiments, which reveal molecular dynamics at high atomic and temporal resolutions. However, relatively few molecular interactions are light-dependent, and this constrains the use of serial crystallography.
In response to this challenge, an international team of scientists, including engineers from PolyPic, has been exploring the feasibility of a drop-on-drop sample delivery system that enables the study of enzyme catalysis using serial crystallography.
